Submissions Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in Bayou City Press! We welcome writers’ submissions and queries regarding publishing books relating to travel, Houston, history, and international affairs. Houston authors are welcome to submit proposals in any genre.

How we work with authors

As a micro-press, we’ll work with you differently than larger publishers. We’ll give you our full and complete attention, and we’ll do our best to make your book a success. This will be a collaborative process, with Bayou City Press assuming the lead in getting the manuscript printed, but with you as the author assuming the lead in marketing the book. Bayou City Press will continue to advise and support your marketing efforts. You should expect to play a very active role in the whole process before, during, and after publication.

We do not offer authors an advance. Instead, BCP assumes all the basic costs of publication—editing, formatting, registering, and so forth. We’ll develop a budget and get your agreement to the budget before beginning work on your project. You will be responsible for any additional fees that exceed this budget, such as for specially designed illustrations or a more expensive cover.
